Mentoring doesn’t always have to be a formal activity. It doesn’t even have to be spot mentoring. A simple conversation can inspire others. Being yourself can inspire others. Even successful people can be hesitant and reluctant to put themselves forward for opportunities. Therefore, you should take any opportunity you can to inspire other people to think bigger, to be ambitious and to take the plunge.

Through open conversations, you can raise the aspirations of younger (and peer) colleagues and professional contacts you think are talented and hardworking and who you think will do great things. Perhaps even greater than they have in mind. While it may not be an immediate “do this now” action – a simple conversation can light the spark that drives them forward and that helps them think of and explore possibilities.
