How to: Create a Press Kit for your Website

Visibility Planner - website

What is a press kit?

A press kit (also known as a media kit), is a page on your website that contains resources and information for reporters and publishers. A press kit should make it really easy for reporters to quickly learn about your product and brand, as well as allow them to access photos and marketing materials they can use. It also allows anyone who wants to talk about or promote your business to be able to do it effectively and on message.

What is included in a press kit?

Your Press Kit should include these essential items:

  • Your Story and Company Information: Share your story, how your business came to be. Share key Company Stats and Facts.
  • Contact info: You should include the contact details for your PR/Media Representative (or for the specific members of your company you want the media to talk to).
  • Team Bios: If you are trying to get yourself and/or members of your company in front of the media for interviews and expert opinion, providing some quick and easily digestible biographical information is important.
  • High-resolution images of your logo, branding and products: Make it easy for content publishers to use your logo or create graphics using your logo by providing high-resolution options in your media kit.
  • Press Releases: You should include previous and current press releases and media appearances. You should include media appearances in TV, print or online. Include a list of your most recent press releases and an archive of your past releases, in chronological order.
  • Examples of your Work: If you are looking to be featured on video or on a podcast, include links to examples of your previous interviews.

In addition to the above must-haves you may also want to include some of the following things in your press kit (if relevant) or links to where the information can be found on your website:

  • Brand Guidelines
  • Awards
  • Social Media and Other Audiences
  • Quotes and/or Testimonials
  • FAQs

Adding your Press Kit to your Website

It is likely that you will want to be discreet with your press kit but make it easy to find at the same time. The perfect place to add your Press Kit is by including a link to your Press Kit Page in the footer of your website rather than including it in your main navigational menu.

Alternatively, you could include it (or at least a clear link to it) on your About page.
