Quick Tip: Add upcoming Birthdays to your Calendar

NTFB Blog Posts - quick tips

A great way to let someone know that you are thinking of them and keeping in touch is to wish them a Happy Birthday. It is even better if you send them a birthday card (this can also work for internal contacts too).

A good exercise to do at the beginning of the year is to update your diary or calendar with any upcoming birthdays that you don’t already have in your diary. If you use a physical diary (or your Networking Planner) make sure you add any birthdays in (and copy any across from your 2019 planner).

This makes it really easy to plan ahead and send them a Birthday Card.

Social Media is a great place to start for details of Birthdays for your friends, colleagues and contacts:

  • LinkedIn: You will need to check the “Personal Information” category on your contact’s profile page to see if they’ve listed their birthday.
  • Twitter: You will need to check the profile/bio page of your Twitter Contact Page. If someone has chosen to add their birth date to their profile, it will be displayed to the audience that they have chosen.

If you don’t know when someone’s birthday is and it is not available online – just them, ask someone who is likely to know. Alternatively, if you don’t have an easy opportunity to ask, just wait until their birthday comes up and you find out about it in a natural setting or by seeing about it on social media and add it to your diary/calendar for next year.
