D is for… Direct Message

Like other social networking platforms you can direct message (DM) people on Instagram to take the conversation off the main feed and keep it private.

However, DMs (and some comments) can sometimes be spammy and for people who are influencers on Instagram as they can get a lot of messages so it is important to both bring the fact that you have sent them a DM to their attention (which is why I often also leave a comment saying that I’ve left them a DM as it increases their chances of seeing it) but also it is important to personalise it and to say something that makes them want to read and reply. Good networking is all about getting your message across and getting decent engagement and conversations with your contacts to help you build your relationship with them.

Used well DMs can also help you build your relationships with your IRL priority contacts on Instagram.
