Should you have a website?

If you haven’t already got a website and you are relying on third party sites for your content you will want to consider getting your own website. A website should be an important part of your digital marketing strategy.

Having a website helps you position yourself as a professional.

Your business website can then become your online home. It is a space that you can control (without being at the mercy of third-party platforms) and your website can grow and develop as you do (and can expand to meet your own needs).

Your business. On your terms.

It is important when you are setting up your own website that you pick the right address (and email address) for your brand or business.

You should opt for a self-hosted website. What is best for you depends on your requirements but shop around show that you can get a decent offer. You can either choose to design your own site, using a template (free or paid for) or potentially go as far as building a custom site and hiring a developer if you do not have the technical skills in-house.

What should be on your website?

Your website is your online home. It can be whatever you want it to be. However, you should consider having the following things:

  • Say who you are and what you do – there is no point in sending people to your website if they can’t extract this basic information.
  • Include your contact details – tell your potential customers how to reach you.
  • Include your credentials and any testimonials – use your website to boost your credibility by including these.
  • Include relevant and interesting content – this might be on web pages or you might write a blog.
  • Mobile Friendly – most people use the internet on their phone so make sure your website is mobile friendly.
  • Legally Compliant – there are lots of things that you will need to include to be compliant, including T&C and a Privacy Policy but there are lots of tools out there to help you.
  • Tracking Software – you want to measure your website activity, therefore, you should install tracking software like google analytics.
  • Social Media Links – share where you are online on your website which is your central hub.
