Remote Networking Tips #1: Be Active and Get Involved!

Whatever platforms you are deciding to use it is important to be active and get involved! The more active you are the more you should get out of the experience (but of course it is important to be active in the right places). Working from home can be the perfect opportunities to increase your efforts online particularly if you aren’t already comfortable with this).

To get started, here are some quick and easy do’s and don’ts when it comes to being more active on social media:

  • Be yourself (be authentic);
  • Write for your readers/audience – what is interesting to them? What do they want to hear about?;
  • Be Professional;
  • Personalise your outreach to your contacts (on an individual basis) and your audience (on a group basis);
  • Take care when posting images that they are professional and appropriate/accurate;
  • Know your legal obligations and have an understanding of your employer’s policy on social media;
  • Be unique and engaging;
  • Don’t post negative content and don’t engage with negative posts and conversations ;
  • Ignore social media trolls (although you do need to engage with any customer complaints in a professional manner);
  • Proofread before posting;
  • Engage with positive/genuine likes, comments, and questions. The more engagement the more your social media content gets seen by others;
  • Remember you are a representative of your company (so act accordingly).
