Attending Networking Events

Different Types of Networking Events: Industry-Specific Events with Speakers

Some networking events are better than others. One of the best types of networking events that can really create the most impact when it comes to boosting your visibility is taking the opportunity to attend industry-specific events.

In particular industry-specific events in your area that have a well-known or inspirational speaker on a topic directly related to your industry, what you do in your day-job or relating to a particular skill set can be really powerful networking events.

What are industry-specific events?

When we talk about industry-specific events, we mean events that are aimed at a specific industry or field or particular group of people with similar interests within an industry (or perhaps sector).

These events may be run by networking organisations, by industry-led bodies or groups or industry networking groups or by referrers that operate within a particular industry.

Why should you attend industry-specific networking events?

Industry-specific events allow you to network with peers and others within the same industry as you. Attending an event where there is an expert speaker allows you to learn from the expert and the others at the event, as well as have a conversation/talking point to help with networking.

CPD or skills event can also help you to keep up to date and get multiple benefits out of one event (it can also help you with the business reason to get funding for the event, or time out of the office).

Why not Speak at an industry-specific networking event?

If you are an expert in a particular topic within an industry – why not put yourself forward as a potential speaker and speak at one of these events.

This gives you even more of an opportunity to maximise your attendance at one of these events and get the most out of the opportunity. If you are a speaker you will get more approaches from attendees than if you are just a regular attendee.
