K is for… Keep in Touch

Previously, one great feature for helping you stay in contact with the connections that matter to you is the “Keep in touch”  function. With the recent LinkedIn redesign the “Keep in Touch” feature has been removed and replaced with “Notifications”.  The Notifications tab is your hub for notifications about you, your content, and your connections. Notifications are a great way to keep in touch with connections and stay updated on your content activity.

You’ll see Notification updates such as these displayed on the Notifications tab:

  • Likes and comments on network updates about you
  • Activity of your shares, posts, and re-shares, including the ones you’ve been mentioned in
  • Activity on any content that you’ve interacted with in your LinkedIn Groups
  • Views on your profile and endorsements from your connections
  • Updates on your network such as job changes, birthdays, and work anniversaries.
  • Pre and post-meeting updates (if you’ve synced your calendar).

You can take the following actions on notification updates:

  • Like: Liking an update will send a notification update to that member.
  • Say congrats: Congratulate a member on their new job or anniversary, or you can also wish them a happy birthday via a LinkedIn message. You can send them a pre-populated message or a personalized message by tapping into the text box and making edits before clicking Send.
  • Comment: Click on the update to view and comment. If you comment a notification update will be sent to that member.
  • Turn notifications on or off: You can turn specific types of notification updates on or off.

These notifications help make keeping in touch and following up with connections on LinkedIn a piece of cake. It offers both prompts for easy opportunities for you to use to reach out or get back in contact with a connection (such as a birthday, anniversary or new job).

Not been in touch with a key contact for a while? Reach out.
